ACCRA, Ghana – The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially committed to sponsoring the prestigious “Sports Administrator of the Year” category at the annual SWAG Awards.
The announcement was made during a high-level consultative meeting where the NSA reaffirmed its dedication to a “fullest collaboration” with the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).
The decision by the NSA to sponsor the Sports Administrator of the Year award is seen as a strategic move to encourage professionalism within the various sporting federations. The NSA aims to celebrate administrators who demonstrate excellence in governance, policy implementation, and athlete welfare.
The delegation from the Authority was led by the Board Chairman, Dr. Fred Awaah, and the Director General, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, signaling a robust institutional backing for the partnership.
The President of SWAG, Kwabena Yeboah, expressed immense optimism about the new direction of the NSA. He specifically lauded Dr. Fred Awaah for his humility and professional approach, noting that the Chairman’s leadership style will open doors for transparent and meaningful dialogue.
“It is truly refreshing to work with a Board Chairman who displays such humility and has a clear, actionable plan for the future of our sports,” Kwabena Yeboah remarked.
He also took the opportunity to commend Yaw Ampofo Ankrah for the “exceptional work” he has delivered since taking office as Director General. Having transitioned from a stellar career in sports journalism to administration, Ankrah was praised for his deep understanding of the industry’s challenges and his proactive efforts to revitalize the Authority.
Beyond the awards sponsorship, the NSA and SWAG outlined several collaborative goals on improving the working conditions for journalists at various stadia, using SWAG’s media reach to spotlight “lesser-known” sports and grassroots talent and ensuring that the sporting press is kept informed of the NSA’s structural reforms and investment plans.
