Accra, Ghana – The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has officially opened nominations for the 2026 SWAG Sports Journalist of the Year Award, inviting eligible members to submit entries for the prestigious honour.
In a statement issued by the association, interested SWAG members are required to submit two of their best sports journalism works to the awards committee via info@swagghana.com. The deadline for submissions is July 10, 2026.
According to SWAG, the award is open to Ghanaian sports journalists, as well as journalists practicing in Ghana, who are registered members of the association and have demonstrated excellence in sports journalism.
To qualify, submitted works must have been published or broadcast between August 2025 and July 2026.
A five-member committee comprising Maurice Quansah (Chairman), Evelyn Nsiah Asare, Nathaniel Laryea, Andy Nortey, and Veronica Commey (Secretary) will oversee the evaluation process.
The committee will rigorously assess all entries and present a shortlist of three finalists to the SWAG leadership for final consideration.
The winner of the 2026 SWAG Sports Journalist of the Year Award will be announced at a special event on August 3, 2026.
The annual award recognises outstanding excellence in sports journalism and celebrates the contributions of media professionals who have distinguished themselves through impactful reporting, insightful analysis, and dedication to promoting sports in Ghana.
