Top officials from business, corporate and the sports community have confirmed to be the guest of SWAG at the inauguration of the Western Regional Branch of the Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana (SWAG).
SWAG National Executive Council led by President Kwabena Yeboah and General Secretary Charles Osei Asibey will lead a delegation to inaugurate the Western branch on Saturday September 5, 2020 at the Naakof Hotel, located at the Regional capital. The inauguration is expected to bring together all sports writers and broadcasters from some major towns in the Western and Western North regions like; Sekondi, Takoradi, Agona Nkwanta, Babiani, Tarkwa, etc.
Dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include Hon. Kobby Okyere Darko (Regional Minister & MP Takoradi), Hon. Joseph Cudjoe (MP Effia & Deputy Minister of Energy in-charge of Finance and Infrastructure), Hon. Ato Panford (MP Shama), Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer (MP Sekondi), Hon. Joe Ghartey MP Esikado-Ketan, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah (Kwesimintim), Dr Dominic Eduah, (Executive Director GNPC Foundation), Mr. Simon Ehumah (RFA Chairman).
Others are Mr Larbi Bortey (NSA Regional Director), Samuel Abuah (CEO Sekondi Hasaacas), Nana Ingresia (IMC Chair, Sekondi Eleven Wise), Mr. Ramos Asafo-Adjei (Snr Lecturer, Media and Public Relations, Takoradi Technical University), DCoP Felix Fosu Agyemang (Regional Police Commander), Kwame Adu Mantey (CEO, Focus 1 Group), Moses Armah Parker of Medeama, Wilson Arthur of Sky Group etc.
The Western Region which boasts of a vibrant sports media from radio, television and print, is the third biggest in the media landscape in Ghana.
The Western Region will become the 5th branch of SWAG after Volta, Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Eastern regions with the Northern and other Regions lined up to be inaugurated soon.
SWAG, the umbrella body for the sports media in Ghana has been in existence for over 52 years and over the years been solely responsible for honouring Ghanaian sportsmen & women who excel representing Ghana in international competitions, shaping sports journalism and bring all practitioners under one umbrella.
