“Today August 3, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), celebrate a major milestone in the history of the Association – our 56th anniversary!

Commemorating 56 years of existence and vibrant membership, we are proud to say that SWAG is a body of several hundreds of active members operating across the country, a testament to the visionary leaders and celebrated journalists who played instrumental roles in forming this great association in 1968.

Leaders like Kingsley Obeng, Ben Eghan Jnr, Nana Addo-Twun, Ken Bediako, Willie Kwarteng, Yaw Boakye Ofori-Atta, and Joe Aggrey have laid a strong foundation for us to build upon.

For over five decades, SWAG from a humble beginning with a membership of 12, has grown to about 1,000 shifting towards greater decentralisation encouraging the establishment of regional branches across all regions of Ghana.

SWAG in the last 56 years has been at the forefront of promoting and developing sports in Ghana, through the consistent honoring of sports excellence, effective sports journalism and dedicated service to our members and the sports community.

As we mark this significant occasion, we reflect on our achievements, our challenges, our contributions to the growth of sports in Ghana and our commitment to the welfare and development of sports journalists.

We pay glowing tribute to our past presidents the late Joe Lartey and Willie Kwarteng, Oheneba Charles, Joe Aggrey, Ebo Quansah, and Ackah Anthony, who have steered SWAG from strength to strength, passing the mantle to President Kwabena Yeboah and his team of committed executives.

We salute our evergreen journalists and forebears for long service and dedication to the course of SWAG.

To our indefatigable patrons, we are eternally grateful for their wise counsel and guidance.

We encourage and say ayeeko to our fearless, intelligent and constructive sports journalists who have stood the test of our time, demonstrating professionalism.

We also look forward to the future, with excitement and hope, as we continue to innovate, adapt, and evolve to meet the changing needs of our members and the sports industry.

Here to many more years of excellence, unity, and service to Ghanaian sports!

Happy 56th anniversary, SWAG!
