The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has welcomed and congratulated the new Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif with a call on him to focus on the development of the Ghanaian athlete and the 2023 Africa Games to be hosted by Ghana.

According to the Association, the new Minister faces a tough test as Ghana is a couple of years away from hosting the biggest sporting event on the continent and would need to recruit athletes from all sporting disciplines to affirm the ‘Host and Win’ mantra.

In a statement signed by the SWAG President, the Association urged the minister to focus on athlete development not only for the 2023 African Games but rather a long-term project that will see Ghana climbing and rubbing shoulders with other nations competitively at international competitions.

The statement again made a passionate call on the minster to continue with the infrastructural development that was started by his predecessor, Hon Isaac Asiamah so that there could be more recreational centers across the country.

SWAG mentioned that they were particularly happy the minister mentioned he would be a minister for all sporting disciplines.
SWAG assured him of a cordial working relationship to promote and develop sports in the country.
