ACCRA, Ghana – The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has officially inaugurated a seven-member Nominations Committee to spearhead the selection process for the upcoming 2026 SWAG Awards.
The committee is tasked with upholding the integrity of Ghana’s most prestigious sports awards by ensuring a transparent, credible, and merit-driven process.
Their mandate is to identify and honor outstanding athletes, officials, and institutions that have exceptionally distinguished themselves in Ghanaian sports over the past year.
In a statement issued by the SWAG Secretariate, the committee is being headed by SWAG Executive Committee member Franklin Anane Gyimah, the newly formed panel brings together a wealth of experience in sports journalism. The committee members are:
- Franklin Anane Gyimah (Chairman)
- Theophilus Sampah
- Ayeshatu Zakaria Ali (Secretary)
- Bright Yeboah Taylor
- Gabriel Obu
- Akosua Adjei
- Sammy Heywood Okine
With the committee now active, SWAG has officially opened the floor to its members to submit their nominations. The deadline for all submissions is October 15, 2026.
The statement mentioned that in making their submissions, SWAG members have been urged to look beyond just wins and losses. It emphasizes that nominees should be evaluated on a holistic set of criteria, including; On-field performance and impact, Discipline and sportsmanship, and Overall contribution to both national and international sporting achievements.

To safeguard the credibility of the awards, the association has outlined a strict, multi-tiered review process once the nomination window closes.
According to them, the Nominations Committee will verify, collate, and assess all entries to ensure they strictly meet SWAG’s high standards then a consolidated shortlist will be presented to the SWAG Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee will review the shortlist before forwarding it to the General Assembly then the General Assembly will provide a final layer of oversight and accountability before the official nominees are publicly announced.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to its long-standing tradition of excellence and fairness, expressing confidence in another highly successful awards season.
